Overview

The Integrated Ground-Air-Space Communication Performance Evaluator is a unified simulation tool that models, analyzes, and evaluates the performance of communication links spanning ground stations, High Altitude Platform Stations (HAPS), and satellites. It integrates environmental effects across atmospheric and near-space regions and offers comprehensive performance metrics for each segment (ground-to-air, air-to-space, and full end-to-end). This software supports research and development activities in aerospace communications, disaster recovery networks, remote sensing platforms, and 5G/6G non-terrestrial networks (NTNs).

Note: The software is provided as a standalone .exe file. MATLAB source codes are not shared. Requires MATLAB Runtime (MCR) to operate.

Key features

  • Segment-wise Performance Analysis: Ground-to-HAPS link: Includes turbulence, attenuation, pointing errors, and AOA fluctuations, HAPS-to-satellite link: Incorporates atmospheric attenuation and cloud-induced fading, Full ground-air-space integration with cumulative impairment modeling
  • Environmental Modeling: Turbulence using log-normal or gamma-gamma statistics for lower atmospheric paths, Cloud attenuation based on cloud type (cirrus, cumulus, stratus), altitude, and density, Free-space loss and elevation angle effects for satellite links, Pointing error models for all segments
  • Supported Technologies: Optical and RF links, Fixed and mobile ground terminals, GEO/MEO/LEO satellite options, HAPS mobility modeling (optional input)
  • Performance Metrics: Bit Error Rate (BER), Outage Probability, Channel Capacity, SNR margin per link, End-to-end throughput

Use cases

  • NTN System Design: Evaluate and optimize ground-air-space systems for 6G and beyond
  • Aerospace Network Planning: Assess link reliability and throughput for ISR (intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance) missions
  • Emergency Connectivity Solutions: Simulate robust links using HAPS as aerial relays during ground infrastructure failure
  • Academia & Training: Teach system-level design and performance prediction in integrated optical and RF networks

System requirements

  • Software Dependencies: MATLAB or MATLAB Runtime (MCR)
